Honest comparison

Cantari vs Speechify, honestly.

Speechify is the world's best-known listening app, and for having your own content read aloud it is probably the right tool, full stop. The comparison only becomes interesting when you are creating audio for an audience. Here is that comparison, made fairly.

In fairness

What Speechify does better today.

This section comes first because most comparison pages bury it. If one of these is the job in front of you, they are the better tool right now.

The read-aloud category leader

For listening to your own articles, PDFs, and books, Speechify is the most refined tool there is: scan and listen, summaries, and speeds up to 4.5x.

Enormous voice and language coverage

Hundreds of voices across 60-plus languages. The breadth is real, and it is far bigger than our curated roster.

Accessibility roots that still show

Built originally for dyslexia, it still serves reading-support users better than any general TTS tool, and the K-12 grants program for schools deserves credit.

How you pay

Their published tiers next to our flat plans.

Both columns come from a registry: theirs from a dated research snapshot, ours from the same plan table the product enforces. Nothing here is retyped by hand.

Speechify, as published

  • Premium (reader)$29/mo or about $139/yr

    The flagship read-aloud subscription

  • Studio Free$0

    600 credits for voiceover creation

  • Studio Starter$19/mo

    Credit-based creation tier

  • Studio Creator$49/mo

    Larger credit allowance for creators

  • API$10 per 1M characters

    Developer text to speech pricing

Speechify's published prices as of June 2026, spread across its separate products. The lineup changes; verify with Speechify before you buy.

Cantari, flat plans

  • Free$0 forever

about 10 premium minutes a month

  • Creator$15 / mo

about 10 hours of premium audio a month

  • Studio$49 / mo

about 30 hours of premium audio a month

Kokoro, the draft engine, is unlimited on every plan including Free. The caps above are the same ones the product enforces, and the full grid is on pricing.

Where we differ

What Cantari does differently.

The honest contrasts, written against Speechify specifically rather than copied between comparison pages.

One product, one price list

Cantari is a single studio with three flat plans. There is no reader edition, no separate audiobook product, and no parallel credit system to decode.

Hours, not credits

Plans are sized in plain time: about 10 hours a month on Creator, about 30 on Studio, and unlimited Kokoro drafting everywhere. Sizing a project takes one sentence.

Built for making, not listening

Audiobook chapters, dubbing, speech to text, and cloning coming soon, all pointed at creators shipping audio to an audience rather than readers consuming their own.

Scores you can audit

Our engines carry third-party listener Elo with a named source and retrieval date on the open benchmark. When a claim is ours, we show the measurement behind it.

The open benchmark

Our engines carry third-party scores. Theirs are not listed.

Speechify's models do not appear in the Artificial Analysis Speech Arena as of June 2026, so there is no independent listener score to compare against ours, and we will not invent one.

  • 1Gemini Flash1225 Elo
  • 2Grok Voice1197 Elo
  • 3Kokoro1060 Elo
  • 4MAI Voice 2*1007 Elo
  • 5Zonos*1000 Elo

Quality Elo: third-party, from the Artificial Analysis Speech Arena (source), retrieved 2026-06-10. Listener-vote ratings, not a Cantari measurement.

  • *Score is for MAI-Voice-1; MAI-Voice-2 is not yet arena-rated.
  • *Baseline rating with limited arena votes so far.

Cloning belongs in the same picture: ours is coming soon, on our roadmap. On Speechify's side: Not covered by our June 2026 research, so we make no claim about where cloning sits in Speechify's lineup. The full score, latency, and cost table is on the open benchmark.

Read before buying

The Speechify fine print worth knowing.

Documented from their published materials, stated without spin. Verify current terms with the vendor; this is a June 2026 snapshot.

Four products wearing one name

Premium reads to you, Studio creates, Audiobooks is separate, and the API is priced apart. As commonly reported, buyers struggle to tell which one they are paying for.

Trial-to-paid surprises

Unexpected annual charges at trial end, in the roughly $139 to $230 range, are commonly reported by reviewers. Whatever you pick, read the renewal terms first.

Creation runs on credits

Studio meters creation in credits, and the best creation voices sit behind credit tiers, so producing audio means watching a balance.

Straight answers

Cantari or Speechify: the questions people ask.

Is Cantari a Speechify replacement?
Only for the creation half. Speechify's heart is reading content to you, and it is excellent at that; we do not offer a reader app at all. Cantari's heart is producing finished audio from your scripts. If you want both jobs done well, you may genuinely want both products.
Speechify lists hundreds of voices. How many does Cantari have?
Far fewer. We curate a small roster across five engines and publish exactly what each one is good at, with your own cloned voices coming soon. If you need breadth across 60-plus languages, Speechify's catalogue is bigger, and we say so plainly.
How does Studio's credit pricing compare to Cantari's plans?
Speechify Studio's published tiers as of June 2026 run on credits: 600 free, then Starter at $19 and Creator at $49 a month. We size plans in time instead: $15 for about 10 hours, $49 for about 30, plus unlimited Kokoro drafting on every plan. Comparing the two means converting credits to minutes for your script, and we encourage doing that math with their docs open.
Whose voices score higher?
There is no honest head-to-head number. Our engines carry listener Elo from the Artificial Analysis Speech Arena, published with source and date. Speechify's models are not in that arena as of June 2026, so audition theirs by ear and check our scores on the benchmark.
